Now, are you comfortable in just thanking the employee sincerely and saying bye? Or do you go and buy the thing because of guilt and fear of conflict? If you buy the thing just because of this fear, you aren’t a masculine male.

It’s their job to help you, just as it’s your job to be nice to them and thank them. A real mature male would tell them something along the lines of “Unfortunately, I still didn’t find the item of my choice, but thank you very much for your help.”
